Swiss Medical Network participates in national AI initiative for precision oncology
Swiss Medical Network is a partner of the new national initiative NAIPO (National AI Initiative for Precision Oncology), which was selected as a flagship initiative by the Swiss innovation agency Innosuisse. The aim of NAIPO is to sustainably transform cancer treatment in Switzerland through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) - with a secure infrastructure hosted throughout Switzerland that guarantees data protection and privacy.
A response to the greatest oncological challenge
Cancer remains one of the most urgent health policy challenges in Switzerland. According to the Global Cancer Observatory, around 58,000 new cases and almost 20,000 deaths were registered in 2022. Personalised treatments have often come up against limitations to date, as data is fragmented and insufficiently networked between institutions.
This is precisely where NAIPO comes in: With a joint, AI-supported platform, precision oncology is to be made available throughout Switzerland - from diagnosis and personalised therapy through to aftercare.
Why Swiss Medical Network is taking part
As a partner within this national consortium, Swiss Medical Network is actively contributing its expertise and infrastructure to the initiative. For our clinics and patients, this means
- Direct access to the latest AI tools for diagnostics, therapy and clinical decision-making
- More equitable care: state-of-the-art precision oncology also outside university centres
- Strengthening quality by helping to shape national standards in oncological care
- Greater patient proximity, as AI-supported solutions are integrated into the daily practice of our doctors
A contribution to the future of medicine in Switzerland
With a total volume of CHF 18.9 million and a duration of four years, NAIPO brings together leading research institutes, university and cantonal hospitals as well as private clinic groups. Together, they are building an infrastructure that will revolutionise not only cancer care, but also other medical specialties in the long term.
Swiss Medical Network is proud to be part of this pioneering project and to be actively involved in the further development of precision medicine - for even better, personalised and fairer care for our patients throughout Switzerland.
